Food Inspiration Places Trips & Travels

Vegas, Baby!

Untitled

Here’s my final post dedicated to Las Vegas, in its full glory! Of course, this includes many shots of the sin city’s main attractions and familiar sights, southwestern tacos, fusion foods, desert-inspired mixed drinks, casinos, and faux-european architecture. If you embrace the historic oddity of this city and all its proudly cheesy splendors, Las Vegas really is quite fabulous!

I avoided gambling my entire time in Las Vegas, until just minutes before hopping on my return flight. Thinking I had nothing to lose, I played my first game of slot machine at the airport. Who would have thought? I hit a 7-7-7 and won (albeit, only $2)!

It was a good thing I was on my way out, because that’s how Vegas gets you back – a dollar at a time.

China Poblano, José Andrés’ noodles and tacos restaurant.

They had projection mapping on a lantern/mask shape. I was really excited to see Frida Kahlo’s face morph into Mao Zedong’s face!

José Andrés’ fresh lime margarita with “salt air”

Untitled
When Pigs Fly – steamed barbecue pork buns

Untitled
Lamb Pot Stickers Stuck on You – lamb jiaozi with crispy lace and tiny flowers

Untitled
Beijing Glass – cellophane noodles in thick savory sesame dressing topped with avocado, bean sprouts, jicama, carrots, and Chinese cabbage.

Untitled
Cochinita pibil and carnitas were amazing.

Untitled
“Mango Sticky Rice” was honestly disappointing, because we wanted ripe Thai mangos and gooey sticky rice covered in sweetened condensed milk!

Untitled

Untitled
Alcoholic slushies at Fat Tuesdays. I had a small strawberry and lime margarita. Taurin had that monster of a drink!

Untitled
Tijuana-style tacos at Tacos El Gordo. They even gave us grilled onions and peppers!

Untitled
We had campechano, al pastor (or adobado), and suadero.

The fountain show at Bellagio.

And of course, Taurin and I on the gondola ride at The Venetian!

P.S. The thing that I’m afraid to tell you is that I actually fell asleep by 9:30 PM almost every night in Vegas! Work and jetlag gets the best of us sometimes. But I’m grateful for the chances to combine travel and work.

Vegas has always seemed to me like my hell on earth. LOL
But yes, if I found myself there I would take it for what it was, with all its cheesiness. And that delish looking food would go a looooong way to making me smile.

I have learned my lesson and I always check your blog when I am well fed. 😀

Vegas always seemed to me like an out of this world, over the top place. Did the gondolier sing?

I love that you fell asleep at 9pm every night – That sounds like something I’d end up doing. Haha. I’m not really a club person though. 😛

I’m so jealous, hun. Ohhhh, Vegas. I never really wanted to go but in the last year or so it’s been more and more appealing. I get the feeling it’s trés expensive though and I’d have to save quite a bit to go there (because as much as I love hostels, I would have to go the whole hog and stay in a big huge hotel that has a casino downstairs and really live it up). I’d spend my nights going to see the lounge singers and all the shows. Oooh, thanks for this post. Haha. Love your photos so much. 🙂

This really helps cement the idea that one can enjoy Vegas without losing all their extra money to a metal machine with blinking lights! It looks like a lot of fun around every corner 😀

mmmm, those tacos look very very tasty. They’re making my stomach rumble! I need to put Las Vegas on my list of places to visit, now that you’ve posted about it! That’s too bad about the mango sticky rice. I don’t like it too sweet, because the mango itself is already sweet. One place I go to make it just right, and they add a small dash of coconut milk to give the mango a tiny bit extra sweet flavor. But not sweetened milk, no thanks. Glad you enjoyed your time there! Even if you didn’t stay up past 9:30 every night (I would probably be exhausted too)

those tacos look absolutely amazing. I’m a sucker for cilantro. the mango sticky rice looks like spotty whipped cream with mango. pity on that!

You’re so lucky to able to combine work and travel! Bet Vegas is a super busy place though, never a dull moment I assume! The restaurant you went to is really interesting, such a cool combination of food too, quite unexpected! Love the pic of you guys int he Gondola.
