Daily Life New York

Things I love in February: Lucky Dragons, zines, and miniature world(s)

Succulent Terrarium

This morning I was reading Kelly Zarb’s wonderful little illustrated zine about terrariums when I noticed that the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is doing a terrarium exhibit. And of course, entrance is free on winter weekdays!

I’m excited to start collecting tiny pebbles and glass jars, and build my own miniature forests.

I picked up some pretty origami paper from the Kinokuniya Bookstore yesterday. I’m folding little birds to send out with a couple snail mail packages this week.

The never-ending selection of craft books at Kinokuniya!

Spicy chicken + kimchi ramen with a soft poached egg at Momofuku Noodle Bar

The talented Jannese of Craftylove brought me her lovely Tokyo guide zine as a housewarming gift! The photographs in it wonderfully capture small details from her walks. Have you seen her new photo book?

Taurin and I spent Valentines Day cooking, drinking wine, and exchanging many food-centric gifts. We made a big pot of perciatelli, a thick spaghetti-like pasta. Taurin got me the Momofuku Milk Bar recipe book! I’m so excited, I even ordered an ice cream machine.

On Thursday evening, we went to 285 Kent Ave to see Lucky Dragon’s album release show. It was one of the most captivating performances I’ve seen in awhile.

The new album comes with a beautifully-printed booklet, and Glaciers of Nice store is always filled with neat printed things.

Hi Sewon! It’s good to hear that you’ve been busy! I think terrariums are so cute! And that one with the little bear made me squeal. You ordered an ice-cream machine? How fun!! Nothing beats homemade ice-cream on a hot summer day (or any day). I have a really good watermelon sherbet ice-cream recipe I want to try. I should probably buy one too. haha. Let me know how you like yours!
p.s. I just ordered your photozine on etsy! I’m super excited, and I can’t wait to look through it!

Terrariums are so precious! The Japan photobook is so cool too. I’m building an idea in my head to make a collage book about my time in Japan!

Oh terrariums are so beautiful, like a miniature world in a jar. I think they appeal to the same part of me that loves ships in bottles and bonsai.
Creating one for my flat may have to be an up coming project…..

Oooh terrariums! Sooo adorable especially the delicateness of the glass jar around the mini-forests. I hope your own turn out well, must be quite exciting to try out! Serious food envy from the Korean food that you’ve been eating lately; the green tea latte looks very delicious also! Hope you had a lovely weekend a good week! xx

Looks like you’ve been up to a lot lately! I’ve never heard of terrariums before, they’re adorable. The origami paper is really cute, I’d just waste it though because I’m terrible with origami.
