The difficult solitude

It’s Friday evening, and it’s so good to be home alone with nothing on my agenda. I took a mini nap, put on my new floral dress from Hong Kong, made enoki mushroom with noodles for dinner, and let my thoughts wander. It’s easier to hear yourself when no one is around you.

Sometimes my work-a-holic tendencies make me feel anxious or bored when I have a long stretch of free-time at home. But I quickly get into the quiet process of listening to myself and my wants/needs. I journal on my couch, discover old photos I forgot about, or make spontaneous changes to my favorite recipes.

Whatever it is that I do, These moments of solitude always leave me recharged, and I’m even more excited to spend time with people I love.

P.S. Here’s hint about where I will be living the rest of this year:

“What is necessary, after all, is only this: solitude, vast inner solitude. To walk inside yourself and meet no one for hours — that is what you must be able to attain…We know little, but that we must trust in what is difficult is a certainty that will never abandon us; it is good to be solitary, for solitude is difficult; that something is difficult must be one more reason for us to do it.” – A quote by Rainer Maria Rilke

Seriously? It looks like that where you are? How magical. Also those green fields look slightly fertilizer-licious, it has to be said!

It’s where I will be living the rest of this year, but until then I’m here in Shanghai. Who knows how much fertilizer this country uses, in general? Probably more than I’d like to know! But I’m excited about living near nature–especially all the mountains and pristine bodies of water.

i 110% relate to feeling restless when i have downtime. i feel this urgent need to be productive and DO something, which isn’t necessarily in my (or yours, i guess) best interest. you must be excited to move! that place looks gorgeous.

Gorgeous photos. I agree, it’s nice to have downtime, but I tend to get so bored!

I feel exactly the same then that:
“Sometimes my work-a-holic tendencies make me feel anxious or bored when I have a long stretch of free-time at home. ”
When I´m alone at home the evening I´m often not able to sit in the sofa with biscuits and watch a movie, I always go to my desk and work work, until my boy friend calls “I hope you are not drawing or so, just sit down in the sofa with cookies!!” But I slowly change… 🙂

Ps: Nice you & nice dress
