My last night in Mexico, we invited all of our friends over for tropical fruit salad and smoothies. Even though it was a weekday night, our friends stayed up all night chatting and waiting for my 4 AM taxi ride to the airport. Sometime after midnight, Memo drove us to Don Guero so I could get a last bite of street tacos before my flight. After a delicious pastor con queso taco, we briefly stopped by a convenience store. Out of nowhere the car started…rotating. It felt like a giant was pushing and pulling at the car in a circular motion. It must have lasted about a minute. We hopped out of the car and we saw everyone else quickly exiting their buildings. I saw the whole city light up as people woke up and began to gather out on the sidewalks.
Who could have imagined that I would experience the first earthquake of my life a few hours before my flight out of Mexico City? Or that it would have been a 6.5-magnitude quake!
Oh, Mexico City, I’m going to miss you for so many reasons.

I just have to say, your apartment is absolutely beautiful! Almost looks like a page out of an Ikea catalog.
