Food Trips & Travels

Bonjour Montréal!

I arrived in Montreal after a lovely train ride through the Adirondacks. With a view of the lake and the mountains out the window, I felt like I was on a giant ship headed to wilderness. Then we arrived in Montreal. We had dinner at the famed glutton’s paradise, Au Pied de Cochon, for one of the most indulgent meals ever. I’m still recovering…

Poutine au foie gras – foie gras, fries, and cheese curds smothered in rich gravy. It was amazing.

Me sipping on a mug of house beer.

Langue de bison à l’estragon – braised bison tongue in creamy tarragon sauce.

Untitled
Pied de cochon – “foot of pig” topped with caramelized onions and cheesy mashed potatoes.

This morning we went to grab coffee at Café Expressions

Eva B on Saint-Laurent. We walked into the store in a daze, and we were warmly welcomed with complimentary hot tea.

There’s a side room with the biggest pile of $1 things.

And plenty of plastic limbs hanging from the ceiling!

Thankfully, I was (sort of) on a diet before this trip…

I’m quickly learning that Montréal is truly a francophone city. I’m making an effort to say “s’il vous plait” and “merci.” But that’s the extent of my French. Ah, yet another language to learn!

P.S. A letter arrived!

    ‘a bientot!’ = see you!

I live so close to Montreal and have never been. It is such a shame. But really, I think I am just feeling guilty of my lack of French skills, even though I studied it up until grade 11 🙁 I have made a promise to practice and have an online French lesson program for now. My husband went to French school so he speaks perfect French, but I am too shy and nervous to even practice and learn from him! haha Love the photos, your hair looks STUNNING! wow! And, love the outfit you’re wearing, one shoulder, very sexy! 🙂

The pile of clothes looks like fun. I want to swim in it! I went to one of those vintage shops in Boston but the clothing from the $1 pile were horrendous. Find any gems!? 🙂

Ohh you should visit! 🙂 You’re lucky your husband speaks perfect French, too. And I bet your French is so much better than you’re letting on! 😛

The pile of clothes was fun, but it seemed impossible to really dig and find something good. But in the regular section, I picked up a pair of funky vintage glasses I’m going to take back to put in prescription lens!

I have a friend who attended a school in Montreal for her Master’s. I didn’t get a chance to visit her when she was there–she was always in the States when I was free. I wish I had been able to, though. Your photos are lovely! I’ll just have to visit on my own one day. 🙂
