Daily Life Food New York

A weekend of gluttony!

Taurin’s brother came up to NY for the weekend, and the first thing we did was to take him to grab some fried chicken at Pies n Thighs. We also ate some ginormous biscuits with buttery mashed potatoes, baked beans, and smoked pork collard greens.

We spent the rest of the weekend eating, walking it off, eating, walking it off…such a good excuse to explore my neighborhood!

I think the highlight of all our weekend meals was the single ShackBurger at Shake Shack, accompanied by fries and cold beer. The Brooklyn location was not nearly as crowded, which was a pleasant surprise.

The juicy innards..

Strawberry frozen custard shake!

I want to do this to my wall.
I met up with Jannese for a lunchdate at Ashbox, a small Japanese cafe in Greenpoint. I had a big mug of frothy matcha latte, a spicy salmon onigiri, and a homemade tofu salad. I’ll definitely be returning, especially on a sunny day!

It was so windy!

The Manhattan skyline. Evenings are warm enough that I can brave the wind and watch the sunset from my rooftop. It’s starting to feel like late winter, and I’m realizing it’s been almost a month since I’ve moved up here.

Ha, Ashbox. it’s literally next door to my friend Johnny’s house. that’s where I met him when, exhausted and just arrived from Korea/Beijing, I had arrived in NYC last August.

What a distinct memory attached to a place. Hm, Ashbox must have felt quite familiar, though. There are so many small little cafes in Beijing and Seoul..

A name like “Pies and Thighs” automatically makes me feel hungry hahaha I adore all of your photos, always! Even if they make ME want to just eat and eat 😉

I really love that photo of the trees! Very calming 🙂

Oh and also, I miss fried chicken! Nothing compares to the fried chicken in Korea so I just don’t bother anymore!

beautiful pics as usual! did you go back to Ashbox? I see sunny pics, it was so gross out when we went. You know it’s weird I have Shake Shack only four blocks away and I haven’t tried it, gonna have to go now after your pics. And I just read you speak fluent Spanish, wha?! So do I, but my folks are Cuban 🙂

What a cute video!! I knew right from the start that it was the Yamasuki Singers! Recently, I started listening to them A LOT, I especially love their kono samourai song. : ) I would love to take a food vacation in New York, and SeWon would be one of my guides!! I’m glad you’re enjoying New York!
