Food Photos Thailand Trips & Travels

A stopover in Bangkok

After we returned to Bangkok on an overnight bus, I took a long hot shower and got ready for my city stroll. My good friend/Thai big sister, Wan, came all the way to Bangkok to see me before my trip down south. We had a long dinner at a Thai hotpot restaurant and reminisced about summer 2008.

When I was 20 years old, I traveled alone through Southeast Asia (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam) for two months. Wan and I taught together at a Thai public school in a rural rice farming village. Wan and her husband are opening up a coffee shop soon. I hope I’ll be able to visit them someday soon..

One of my favorite things about living abroad is meeting and getting to know new people. I am grateful knowing that I have good friends in different parts of the world. But farewells are always strange. I like to think that someday, all of our paths will cross again.

“We are not the same persons this year as last; nor are those we love. It is a happy chance if we, changing, continue to love a changed person.” — William Somerset Maugham
