I’m a twenty-something sociology + cultural studies student. Always writing about the (mostly) tangible world. But somehow writing here feels impossible. I guess we don’t often write about the things we collect.
I started collecting because my family moved a lot. I counted 17 houses. When I ask, my parents just shrug and smile, “We wanted to live somewhere new.” I remember making small drawings and putting them somewhere safe. My childhood is a blur of happy memories.
It’s funny I find myself perpetually on the move even as an adult (I am headed to Mexico tomorrow, actually). But we all need something to hold onto, a sense of home or even the stability of knowing that we have agency over the memories of the past.
I know that sometimes along the way we lose things. I just wanted a sharable space to store all the little digital things that I collect.
Blogging feels a bit lonely right now. If you are reading this, where did you come from? Are you a collector? What do you like to collect?
