I recently went on a spontaneous road trip to visit a very special museum with Ongdalsam’s founder, Mr. Godowon, and our head architects. Built on a mountaintop, Hansol Museum is located 275 meters above sea-level and neighbors a vast oak reserve. Designed by Japanese minimalist architect Tadao Ando, the concrete+limestone museum looks like it’s floating on a calm reflective pool.

I’m really looking forward to visiting the 20_20 museum designed by Tadao Ando in Tokyo, as my trip to Japan is just days away now. If you have any Tokyo recommendations, please do send them my way! It’ll be my first time in the city.

Can you believe my time in Korea is already coming to an end? In tribute to my motherland, I am hosting a giveaway of my Korean recipe zine!

Untitled

“Playtime: Sewon’s Korean Kitchen” is a mini recipe zine of my favorite Korean food from childhood with my notes from the kitchen and lovingly photographed home-cooked meals. It’s my first cooking zine featuring fun recipes, including my own recipe for spicy Korean fried chicken and homemade pepero (Korean pocky).

It looks like you’ve really been enjoying your time in Korea, Sewon. Are you going to be staying there after the summer ends? I never thought about going to Korea before, but your posts (and some other random events lately) have inspired me to add it to my list of future destinations!

Oh what a wonderful museum!! I should learn Hangul to understand their website, but it does look incredible! (I’m a bit of a museum enthusiast haha) I’ll be recommending the Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo to you, when I was there in 2010 they had remarkable exhibitions. Oh and the Studio Ghibli museum in Mitaka of course, although I’m still dying to go there myself. Have a great time!!

And I’d love to be joining that giveaway, the prize is so neat!! I follow you through bloglovin, you get my email through this comment right?

ooh, i’m sure you will love tokyo, looking forward to your photos and reports!
recommendations are pretty hard when there’s so much to love. first off, because your blogs suggest you might match, i guess you know about hellosandwich (ebony) – but just in case you don’t, check her blog and maybe her tokyo guide (which is sold out right now unfortunately), or maybe some of the other guides like this one she compiled for an airline: http://hellosandwich.blogspot.jp/2013/07/qantas-tokyo-article.html

my personal advice would be to check out harajuku, which might sound boring after all the coverage the ‘main attractions’ like takeshita and / or the oh so super duper hidden indie places got in the last few years. it’s tourist-y, complete with ridiculous t-shirts and all the government-sponsored ‘cool japan’ promotion, but there are always some little corners left to discover.
also seconding shimokita (although i’m not so sure how the new station changed the area, haven’t been there since february) and throwing in koenji, for everything from nice cafés to random shops and general shitamachi feel.

i’m on a tight budget when i’m in tokyo, so i won’t be much use for restaurant recommendations, but you can always check the ‘travel’ (= food) guides you find in the magazines section in every konbini or tabelog rankings: http://tabelog.com/tokyo/ (if google translate fails, try something like rikaichan for mouse over-translation)

also, for craft supplies, have a look at tokyu hands and loft, as well as sekaido (stationary & art supplies, a LOT of them), kiwa (beads, pearls)…or well, you could always check out the tokyo craft guide, i guess they have everything listed (http://www.tokyocraftguide.com/).

    enjoy the trip!

Dear Sewon, it’s so surprising that your time in Korea almost ends.. I thought there’d still be many, many stories from Korea for long time. And after this, where will the next adventure be?
