An interlude in the desert

Barely unpacked from my recent move, I flew out to Las Vegas for a business trip. Hot air, palm trees, dry mountains, and vast air-conditioned indoor spaces. The Strip is a bedazzled fiesta zone with bright neon lights and sounds of slot machines ringing out of casinos. Due to our work schedule and the overwhelming daylight heat, we only ventured out around sunset. I thought New York never slept, but I think Vegas might just be the winner here!

The Chandelier is a lovely bar, literally set inside a gigantic chandelier strung with two million crystals.

My drink: Gran centenario plata, fresh watermelon and lime juices, and cointreau, topped with coconut-ginger foam.
Taurin’s drink: the bartender’s play on whiskey sour.

When in Vegas! But we only ate at one buffet, The Wicked Spoon, also located inside The Cosmopolitan.

Fresh mussels cooked in red curry butter.

Gnocchi with lamb ragu and risotto with asparagus. I love the small portions here!

All-you-can-eat chocolate covered strawberries.

Huge macaroons and chocolate shell pastry cups.

P.S. Thank you for all your warm congratulations and kind words about our engagement. Taurin and I are very excited.
It’s a funny coincidence that our business trip was in Vegas. No, it really was for work! More photos soon.
