A few weeks ago, Jannese and I had a little picnic at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for the Sakura Matsuri. We ate some homemade onigiri and cucumber salad. Jannese even packed ice cold matcha and dessert.
I can hardly believe it’s already May. My goal for this month is to make each day count and live in the present. And also, have more picnics with friends!

Was it last week? I made some spicy Korean fried chicken in Johnny’s beautiful kitchen.

Jacob and his CD collection. He just moved back to Shanghai this past weekend.

Zuoxiao Zuzhou’s album with Ai Weiwei’s signature on it.

A lovely letter from Marlou arrived!

She sent me some flower seeds.

I planted them in my hand-thrown planter.

Remember my little garden? The arugula is getting bigger by day!

Your photos are so fun Sewon, the Sakura Matsuri looks so vibrant and colourful- what a fun experience! Also your Korean fried chicken looks really yummy! Could so do with some of those right now..
It really was fun! And Jannese made sure I caught the best of it.
Oh yes, that’s a good goal, it is also mine since some time now
It’s hard for me to strive for, because I’m constantly dreaming of the future/new adventures to come. But I’m going to make an conscious effort this month.
All these look wonderful!
Wish your May will be a good one:)
Thank you, Koey! And you, too.
so lovely seeing my mail on your blog
it always stays a bit surreal for me that something like that can reach a whole other part of the world, and it gets so much more real by just some pictures.
i hope the flowers grow well!
your little garden looks great! and so does the rest of your month.
hopefully may will just be as lovely
I think that’s one of my favorite things about snail mail exchanges. Your flower sprouted today! I’ll wait for it to grow a bit more, and show you a photo.
Lovely photos as always!! Especially like the shot with butterfly on the purple flower
The Korean fried chicken that you made looks really yummy… could you please share how you made the spicy sauce!?
Yes, of course! I just eyeball all the measurements to taste, but let me know if you need more details. But basically, mix finely chopped onions, minced garlic, gochujang, gochukaru (just a sprinkle), ketchup, soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, ground pepper, and toasted sesame seeds. Heat up the mix in a sauce pan until the onions get a bit soft. Pour it over crispy double-fried chicken before serving!
That’s a wonderful goal to live up! Two more weeks and I’m done with school, then I’ll try to live up that goal too. I love the card Marlou sent you! And I’m happy to hear that my mail arrived safe and sound!
These look great! Looks like April was a fun, exciting month for you. I also sent you something about a week or two ago – I hope it didn’t get lost in the mail!
We recently planted some vegetable seeds in the flowers beds in our backyard too. Can’t wait for them to grow!~
oh my god, i gasped at the first few shots of the festival. that’s “hanagasa matsuri,” originated from yamagata, where my mom is from. so nice to see it at such an unexpected place!
THat must be so nice to see your little garden grow…
